George Patrick Ah-Thew SADC Secretariat Directorate of Infrastructure and Services.

Dr Ah-Thew was Born in Tanzania and a Citizen of Seychelles. Undertook his further studies at McMaster University in Canada, where is obtained a Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Worked as Director General (DG) of Communications at the Department of ICT in the Government of Seychelles from 1998 to 2009. Worked as both the Ministry and Regulator. He then took the post as the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences for the University of Seychelles (which is an exchange programme with the University of London) until 2011, when he joined the SADC Secretariat as Programme Officer for Telecommunications. His present work entails:

  • Development of cost-effective and integrated telecommunications and ICT infrastructure and to ensure the provisions of modern and reliable telecommunications and ICT services throughout the SADC region.

  • Coordinating the SADC DTT migration and Post DTT Migration processes through the convening of the SADC DTT fora and monitoring the work of the SADC DTT Project Management Office (PMO).
  • Preparing bankable projects and implementing the Digital SADC 2027/Revised RISDP so as to transform SADC into an information and knowledge-based society by 2027.
  • Facilitating the formulation of the SADC harmonized ICT related policy, strategy, legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitoring the National transposition of the SADC Harmonised Cyber Security Model Laws: E-transactions/E-Commerce, Data Protection and Cybercrime.
  • Monitoring the establishments of National CIRTs and Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs).
  • Facilitate capacity building and theimplementation of NIXPs in all SADC Member States and at least one RIXP.
